We are horrified by the shooting at Utah Valley University. We share our heartfelt condolences with Charlie Kirk’s family, loved ones, his team, and all those traumatized by this act of violence. This tragedy transcends politics. An attack on any person engaged in political speech is an attack on democracy itself, and we condemn this unequivocally.Violence in our civic spaces leaves everyone feeling less safe – conservatives, progressives, students, and every American who believes in the public square. Thoughts and prayers are not enough. We must now find the courage to act and prevent the next tragedy. This isn’t about left or right. It’s about safety versus violence; it’s about ensuring our democratic spaces, from college campuses to political rallies, are safe for everyone, regardless of race, creed, orientation, or politics. We urge a serious, national conversation free from partisan rancor on ending this epidemic of violence. Free expression and gun violence are not mutually exclusive. Our deepest condolences to all affected.![]() Mary-Pat HectorCEO, Rise Sent via Action Network, a free online toolset anyone can use to organize.
